Ingredients like fluoride and triclosan are common in toothpastes, but that doesn’t mean they are safe. When these ingredients are washed down our drains they enter the ground and water supply. From there, they can be damaging to the environment, including plant and animal life. 

In addition to the ingredients, the materials used to manufacture and package conventional toothpastes are often made from materials that will not break down in the environment. Estimates suggest that one billion plastic toothpaste tubes enter landfills each year. These tubes never fully break down.
